Holden Beach

My aunt and uncle have a place at Holden Beach and they let us stay there for a few days and enjoy the beautiful beach. We had such a wonderful time and it was a much needed vacation. My mom (Gavin's Gi-Gi) went with us and she was such a huge help, she cooked, cleaned, washed clothes, changed diapers, kept Gavin, you name it she did it. Later in the week my sister in law (Christie), who is pregnant, brother in law (Jack) and niece Logan came and joined in the fun. We all got a little too much sun but we kept going back for more each day.
We also took Freckles so she could let the wind blow her ears and the sand get between her paws. We took a family walk and if I would have planned it a little better I would have color coordinated us but I'm just glad that we all could stay together. As you can see Gavin loves to to take Freckles for a walk on her leash and they are usually going the opposite direction as we are.

As you have seen in previous blogs my little man loves to play in the sand. We have recently found out that in the future we need to take a huge shovel and just dig a big hole and put Gavin in it. He loves to just get in a hole, pull sand on him and jump in and out of it. Gavin loves his Uncle Jack and loves him even more now that he knows he will get in the sand with him and help him dig and make castles.

It's not very often that you see the little sand crabs. But I remember as a little girl going down to Holden Beach and feeding the sand crabs cookies and they would almost take them from your hands. But as time has passed these little sand crabs are hard to find and hard to get out of their holes. We tired are best to get this crab out of his hole, we tired strawberry bagels, cookies and finally it took a goldfish.

Once the seagulls saw that we were feeding the crabs they thought they would get some snack too. And my husband thought it was so funny that they all gathered around him. I was just praying that we did not get pooped on. It was really kinda neat though to see all those birds just hoovering and then catching the pieces that we through at them.

After all the morning fun my mom would take Gavin back to the house to get a nap so we could stay out on the beach and get some more sun. But after a nap we would go get in the blow up pool. Gavin's favorite part about the pool was filling it up with the water hose. He would get it and spray who ever was the closest.

Here are some random pictures.

Airplanes/Bubbles

Gavin loves airplanes, every time we are outside and he hears one flying over, he looks up into the sky and continuously says plane, plane and will not stop until he can no longer see or hear the airplane anymore. So I went and bought him a little airplane that he can play with all the time. He loves it and plays with it all the time until Freckles takes it from him and then he really gets upset. I mean fall in the floor, kicking and screaming upset. He screams momma, momma, plane, plane. Yes he is loves to say his words mulitply times, just to make sure I understand him. Here are a couple of pictures of him enjoying his plane!
Gavin's other love is bubbles. Any kind of bubbles as long as he can blow them all by his self. I let him did it every time even though I say no, I give in and just give him the bubbles. This time it was a bubble wand and yes I gave it to him and yes he spilled it all over him as he attempted to blow bubbles. It was so funny watching him try to put the wand back into the little hole. The pictures show him trying so hard. It's really cute, I have to admit even though he got bubbles stuff everywhere and was super sticky.

Popsicle Poolside

Today was so nice outside, not humid, slight breeze, and about 80. I pulled the splash mat out so Gavin could play and run around outside. He had a blast and after an hour of playing hard I got him a popsicle, which he loves. (And by the way "popsicle poolside" sounded really good together, even though we were actually popsicle spalsh mat.) But this popsicle was so good that every time Gavin took a bite he would close he eyes and savory the flavor, too funny. And this was no ordinary popsicle this one had ice cream inside. Gavin very quickly learned that ice cream was inside and would stick his finger in it and pull out the ice cream.

Gavin's Finger (Warning)

Warning I have pictures of Gavin's finger with no bandage on it.
We went to the doctor Monday for Gavin's check up on his finger. Everything went good, the doctor released him back to day school with some rules:
#1 - No bandage
#2 - No Dirt/Sand
#3 - No soap
#4 - No scrubbing
#5 - No finger painting
As you can see pretty much everything that day school would do with toddlers. But he has done very good these last couple of days. The only concern is he wants to pick at his finger because of the scab and he does not want to bend that finger. So hopefully with the bandage off he will start using it again. Also the best news we got was he can get it wet, no more press and seal or zip lock bags for bath time and pool. YEA! But my main concern was the whole no more bandage, I have not really looked at his finger. It seriously still makes me sick to my stomach to know that this has happen to my little boy. As his mother I must overcome this and come to reality that this is what it is. I believe that it will not be as bad when the scab falls off and the swelling goes down. Again here are the pictures of his finger!

1st Trip to the Zoo

Yes that's right this was Gavin's first trip to the zoo. You would think that with us living only 5 minutes from the zoo that we would go every weekend. We have also lived here for a little over 4 years and we have not taken Gavin's Gi-Gi (my mom) to the zoo either. Every year she has said we're going to the zoo but it never happens. Well Gavin absolutely loved the zoo and was very well behaved for an almost 2 year going through his trouble twos. We went with some friends of ours, Jenna, Elle (Gavin's future girlfriend), and Mandy. We went first thing in the morning to beat the Saturday crowd and get the trip in before nap time.
We started at the sea lions which loved to swim up to the glass and let the kids look at them. Gavin pointed and laughed and of course wanted to stand right up to the glass so he could get a closer look. Next was the polar bear, he was showing off for sure. He would swim up to the glass, jump out the water, and then dive back down into the water. WOW, he was a site even for the adults.

We then went into the Desert and there was all kind of cactus, snakes and turtles. Gavin was fascinated by this turtle, he just keep starring at him and so did the turtle. But Elle wanted to get out with Gavin and look at this one sleeping cat thing, not sure what is was called.

After all this excitement Gavin spotted the carousal and wanted to ride. He loves the carousal, every time we go to Concord shopping we have to ride that one too. But that's OK whatever makes him happy. We started off on the polar bear but ended up on the dolphin, I don't know why he didn't like the polar bear. But I thought the giraffe was super cute so I had to get a picture with him.

We went to see several other animals like the monkeys, bears, zebras, bison and elephants but we were mostly excited about the giraffe feeding area. You can actually hand feed the giraffes, how cool is that. Gavin did not make it to the Africa area of the zoo and feel asleep before we made it to the giraffes. But the giraffes were not up at the feeding area and were up by the rocks so I was able to get a picture of them, they are an amazing site to see. So on our next trip, which will be soon, we will start in Africa and work our way back.
